Elara has developed compounds with a dual mode of action: they inhibit the HIF pathway and trigger apoptosis via induction of caspase 3, an enzyme which plays a central role in the execution of the programmed cell death. The advantage of this approach is that the company's compounds target the whole tumor regardless of whether its oxygen supply is sufficient (normoxic) or insufficient (hypoxic conditions).
The founding intellectual property portfolio was licensed exclusively to ELARA through EMBL-EM. Elara is aggressively developing its own proprietary intellectual property portfolio through its own innovations.
